Praised for their “intelligence” and “immensely satisfying” playing by the New York Times, the Amernet String Quartet has garnered recognition as one of today’s exceptional string quartets and are Ensemble-in-Residence at Florida International University in Miami. Their sound has been called “complex” but with an “old world flavor.” Strad Magazine described the Amernet as “…a group of exceptional technical ability.”
The Amernet has always been committed to the music of our time and has commissioned works from many of today’s leading composers, working closely with artists including Anthony Brandt, Guillermo Carbo, John Corigliano, Orlando Jacinto Garcia, John Harbison, Toshi Ichiyanagi, Bernard Rands, Gerhard Samuel, Morton Subotnick, Dmitri Tymoczko, and Chinary Ung.
ABOUT FIU NODUS ENSEMBLE
Initiated by FIU faculty composer in residence Orlando Jacinto García, NODUS is the professional contemporary chamber music ensemble in residence at Florida International University in Miami (FIU). Specializing in the cutting edge Art music of our time, the makeup of the ensemble varies for each concert depending on the works being presented. The ensemble’s repertoire includes recent music by composers from around the world, works written specifically for the ensemble, and works with electronics and/or video. More by clicking here.

The festival has championed and presented cutting-edge contemporary classical music over its 25 years of existence including music for soloists, chamber ensembles, and music with video and electronics. Serving as a platform for a wide variety of composers and performers from all over the world representing numerous cultures, ethnicities and backgrounds, it has established itself as an important annual cultural event in South Florida.
What does ISCM stand for?
ISCM stands for International Society for Contemporary Music. It is a prestigious international network of members from around fifty countries, devoted to the promotion and presentation of contemporary music - the music of our time. Through ISCM, our members promote contemporary music in all its varied forms, strengthening musical life in their local contexts and making their music and its creators known to world. The ISCM embraces the diverse music of its many members without discrimination on the basis of race, gender, religion, or politics.
