FIU Music Festival Oct 20 - Nov 13, 2021
Wertheim Concert Hall
Wednesday, Oct 20, 2021 at 7:30 PM (ET)

Join us for our opening night festival concert – a celebration of Cuban heritage! From Moises Simon to Benny More and many more featured surprises including the orchestral world premiere of Ernesto Lecuona's Rumba-Rhapsody, get ready for an evening filled with the classical and unmistakable rhythms of Cuba featuring the FIU Symphony Orchestra, joined by pianist Tomas Y. Tirino, the FIU Concert Choir, the FIU University Singers, Encantus Voices, the Miami Children's Chorus and more!

One of the Evening's Highlights, but more surprises to come!

  • ORCHESTRAL WORLD PREMIERE of Ernesto Lecuona's Rumba-Rhapsody. Performed by the Conductor Javier Jose Mendoza, Pianist Tomas Y. Tirino, the FIU Symphony Orchestra, and the FIU Concert Choir.
  • A major exponent of Spanish & Latin Music, and master of classical repertoire, Tirino has performed at the Bolshoi & St. Petersburg, Lincoln Center, with Boston Pops, and numerous European orchestras. Time Magazine chose his Lecuona recording as one of its "10 Best," and Gramophone called his “cut glass virtuosity & seductive charm truly formidable.”
