Classical music is ever evolving with new sound worlds and ambitious, experimental composers. This evening is a collection of cutting-edge contemporary classical Latin American works by Miami-based composer, Orlando Jacinto Garcia and Mexican-based composer Javier Alvarez who have become important voices in the new music world.
Audiences will experience two highly satisfying performances by the acclaimed Amernet String Quartet, FIU’s Artist in Residence Ensemble, who will be joined first by guitar virtuoso Jaime Marguez for ‘fragmentos del pasadao” and later by FIU clarinetist Jesse Gilday for “Jardin de Otoño.“
The Amernet—violinists Misha Vitenson and Avi Nagin, violist Michael Klotz, and cellist Jason Calloway—has been praised for its intelligence, expressivity, ravishing sound, and commitment to both new music and the classics since its inception. The group has commissioned works from many of today’s leading composers.
Also featured will be a cello solo with Calloway and a world premiere guitar solo performance by Marquez. Guest composer Alvarez will also be at the concert, and will speak briefly with NMMF’s artistic director Garcia, before their works are performed. Cash bar is available.
Join us for the closing concert of the New Music Miami Festival at The Wolfsonian - FIU on September 29 beginning at 7:00pm featuring the Amernet with NY-based composer Zosha di Castri.
