For the closing concert of the New Music Miami ISCM Festival 2021, you’ll find some of the latest trends in contemporary classical music that are challenging our perceptions of music.

NY-based sound artist and composer Zosha di Castri makes her festival debut utilizing the impressive technical ability of the acclaimed Amernet String Quartet, FIU’s Artist in Residence Ensemble, for her String Quartet No. 1. Her music has been performed across the globe and extends far beyond purely concert music, including projects with electronics, sound arts, and collaborations that encourage audiences to feel “compelled to return for repeated doses” (The Arts Desk).

The Amernet—violinists Misha Vitenson and Avi Nagin, violist Michael Klotz, and cellist Jason Calloway—will also perform the string quartet of FIU composer Jacob Sudol and guests can expect to hear members of the FIU NODUS Ensemble present works by Zosha di Castri, Alvin Singleton, Caroline Shaw, Paula Matthusen, Mario Lavista, and NMMF Director Orlando Jacinto Garcia.

Guest composer Zosha Di Castri will also be at the concert, and will speak briefly before the works are performed. Cash bar is available.

DICASTRI is a Canadian composer, pianist, sound artist living in New York. Her work, which has been performed internationally, extends beyond purely concert music including projects with electronics, installations, and collaborations with video and dance. She has worked with such ensembles as the BBC Symphony, San Francisco Symphony, Montreal Symphony Orchestra, the National Arts Centre Orchestra, the L.A. Philharmonic, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, the NEM, Ensemble Cairn, and the groups included on this album among others. Zosha is currently the Francis Goelet Assistant Professor of Music at Columbia University and was a fellow at the Institute for Ideas and Imagination in Paris during 2018–19, while working on this recording project.

Tachitipo," the eponymous track of her debut album, has been nominated for Classical Composition of the Year in the 2021 JUNO Awards. The track is performed by the Yarn/Wire ensemble and was recorded at Oktaven Audio. Tachitipo is distributed by New Focus Recordings. For more information on the album, see here.
